Handwoven Fiber Products

Hello. It’s so great to meet you. I’m Todd, I don't own a yacht or know why the carpet's all wet Margot. Look at that. Already off track. Lovely. Take 2...Here at Cellar Door Fiber Arts, I’m passionate about dreaming, exploring, and communally conjuring unpredictable ideas. Then I get to have fun turning those ideas into real products that provide beauty and function to people‘s daily lives. There are meaningful stories (at least to me) behind how and why I weave in the first place. Then the stories behind why I have to start the process in our 124 year old cellar crawl space. And the stories about all that might have happened behind that grand and tattered cellar door.  It is beautiful and humble in that space and I love it there. Hopefully you will enjoy some of the products that it inspires. 

At Cellar Door Fiber Arts, I believe that all artistic expression is more than just a hobby - it's a way to connect with others and build relationships. I’m interested in creating this space to form relationships with other fiber artists and have the opportunity to experience and share their work and perspectives. I have learned that there are amazing artists hiding in plain sight all around me also searching for that connection. I have somehow personally ended up being constantly surrounded by trained fiber artists with true expertise.  I get lost in their work and am in awe of that kind of gift. But my own brilliant weaving guru started as a hobby weaver. She taught me to believe that the time and investment as a self taught weaver was worth everything as long as you loved it. Teach yourself and wrestle with it. Cuss a lot. Make mistakes. Fix mistakes or act like you meant to do it that way. Ask for help because amazing, gifted artists are out there eager to help. Explore, take risks, and somehow learn to love the therapy of warping as much as weaving. And please don't be afraid to share that part of yourself. Our world needs as many beautiful things as it can get. There are lots of stories there. 

I'm super excited to have the opportunity to provide some vignettes and careful peeks into my own very winding and pothole filled road to creating fiber art products for others. I've been a long winded storyteller for 27 years as a high school teacher so being able to channel that into an actual home for stories is like the mothership calling me home. But more than just personal reflection, having a forum to interactively explain through various media how my own fiber creation process works from beginning to end might just interest some of you Designing, warping, weaving, and finishing a new design or product inspired by color palettes from album cover artwork or a big box store spring plasticware line is what I live for in my fiber art world. I look forward to exploring all these motivations so I might actually understand myself better.
